Some paper objects are not flat: they are folded, cut, assembled, mounted on a structure. Their very shape makes them fragile.
Their weaknesses
- Folded or broken parts, detached elements.
- Colours that flake or turn powdery.
- A structure that sags under its own weight.
How I treat them
I first re-adhere colours that are coming loose (consolidation), then repair and reinforce the structure with light, reversible materials. For these objects, how they are stored or displayed matters as much as the treatment: a custom support or box protects them for the long term.
