Antifungal treatment

Stopping mould, cleaning the affected areas safely, then understanding and treating the cause.

Cleaning a work on paper with a cotton swab

Fluffy stains, a cellar smell, black or coloured spots: mould attacks paper, parchment and bindings, and it can be a health hazard.

What not to do

  • Do not brush or blow on mould: you spread the spores.
  • Do not store the object with other documents.
  • Isolate it in a box or an envelope, somewhere dry, and contact me.

How I work

  • I first check whether the mould is active or inactive, and how far the damage goes.
  • I work with suitable protection to remove the spores and clean the affected areas.
  • A treatment suited to the object stops the activity; the stains left by the mould can then be reduced.

Treating the cause

Mould comes back if its environment does not change. I help you find the cause: damp, ventilation, storage place. See also preventive conservation.
