Preventive conservation
Climate, light, storage, handling: the measures that avoid the need to restore.

The best treatment is the one you never need. Preventive conservation acts on the objects’ surroundings to slow their decay.
The levers
- Climate: steady temperature and humidity, without sudden changes.
- Light: limit exposure, filter ultraviolet.
- Storage: boxes, folders and sleeves in conservation materials, suited to each object.
- Handling: gestures and supports that prevent accidents.
- Monitoring: spotting damp, mould and insects early.
My experience
At the MUMASK museum my work includes collection care and climate monitoring. For the City of Antwerp I made conservation housing and exhibition supports, and worked on inventory.
Who it is for
For institutions and collectors: an assessment of storage conditions, concrete recommendations and, if needed, custom housing for the most fragile objects. For private clients, the guide how to store family papers gives the essentials.
