Consolidation of flaking media

Re-adhering gouache, pastel or paint that is flaking or turning powdery, before any other treatment.

Detail of a flaking paint layer on paper, before consolidation

Some works on paper carry a medium that comes loose: gouache that flakes, pastel or charcoal that turns powdery, paint that lifts. Before cleaning or repairing, it has to be secured.

Consolidation

A very dilute adhesive is applied with a fine brush or as a mist, flake by flake, so the medium adheres to the paper again without changing its look or its sheen. The adhesive is chosen for the technique of the work, after testing.

Why it is urgent

A flake that falls is lost. If a work in your collection is losing its medium, stop handling it, keep it flat and contact me.
