The wallpapers of a 17th-century castle

With KIK-IRPA at Haltinne castle: uncovering, reading the stratigraphy of and documenting historic wallpapers, layer by layer.

In February 2021 I took part, with KIK-IRPA (the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage), in a study of the historic wallpapers of a 17th-century castle at Haltinne.

The work: uncovering the successive layers, reading their stratigraphy to trace the history of the decor, and documenting everything. Wallpapers are a fragile, often forgotten heritage; they are among the supports I treat at the studio.
